Nestled in the foothills of majestic Mount Roland, Sheffield is Tasmania’s outdoor gallery. The vibrant and picturesque town has merged history and art to create an entire town of murals; almost 200 in the region.
Head to the Sheffield Visitor Information Centre to get the best local tips before you wander downtown to discover the mosaic walk and Mural Park, home to the International Mural Fest painting competition.
For the thrill seekers, Sheffield’s Wild Mersey Mountain Bike Trail offers 15kms of country experience. Nature lovers will also be spoilt for choice with waterfalls, wilderness walks and nearby Lake Barrington (an international rowing course) and Devils Gate Dam.
The region is renowned for its world-class produce. From award winning vineyards to a fudge factory, olives groves, truffles, delicious berries and more. Indulge in a true paddock to plate experience with a farm visit where you can meet the makers and see how the produce is created.
The neighbouring towns of Railton and Wilmot have just as much charm and character. Railton, Tasmania’s ‘Town of Topiary’ features over 100 imaginative topiary characters. Wilmot is known as the Valley of Views for its spectacular panoramas of Tasmania’s northern mountains as well as its novelty letterbox trail.
