Explore Penguin
Penguin is a seaside resort town on the edge of Bass Strait with a picturesque esplanade, scenic walking trails and breathtaking coastal drives.
Named after the Fairy Penguins that inhabit the coastline, it’s clear that this town loves its feathery friends with a 10-foot penguin statue in the heart of Penguin. Erected in 1975, the statue has become one of the most photographed landmarks in Tasmania. From September to March at sunset, you may catch a glimpse of the Fairy Penguins as they make their way up the surrounding Penguin beaches to nest.
Penguin offers all, cute cafes, a brewery, boutique shops, on Sundays the town boasts Tasmania’s largest covered market where you can mooch through crafts, food, wine and second-hand goods. For history buffs, Penguin offers visitors self guided audio walks around its 26 heritage-listed sites including the heritage-listed Penguin General Cemetery that dates back to the 1860s.
Explore one of the many walking tracks across the Dial Range, with stunning views over Penguin and the north-west coast or try the Penguin Mountain Bike Park. Resting against the backdrop of the range is Mount Gnomon Farm, offering a genuine paddock to plate experience.
